Please bear in mind though that part of the Penguin update (filter) looks to also be related to the OVER OPTIMIZATION of off page anchortext.  More on that another time.

Well, I wanted to share with you a unique technique that you can apply yourself in order to obtain REAL ‘quality’ backlinks and qualified referred traffic. By qualified I mean targetted visitors who have already learned a little about you and want to learn more.

Give to receive…

This technique involves creating a simple product and giving other sites RIGHTS to give this ebook away to their site visitors and subscribers. With one condition though. That you can have a quality backlink from their site. This can be in the form of a contextual dofollow backlink from within a content rich blog post (NOT a comment link), or even a true homepage link (NOT a sitewide link).

A simple product that most people can create is a short ebook or report. For example, if you are in the weight loss niche you could write a 6 - 12 page ebook highlighting simple ways to strip body fat, or tips on the best times of day to carry out simple exercises to burn calories. If you are in the dog training niche you could write a short report on the best methods of getting your dog to stop barking, or to stop jumping up.

The main factor here is to create a quality report that reads well, provides answers, and is hopefully ‘above average in content’. It needs to look pleasing to the eye graphically and wants to be an attractive read. It might take you an hour to write, it might take you a few hours to write, but once you have completed it you will have a product that you can use as some serious link building bait.

After creating the ebook or report you need to find a list of quality blogs that are ‘reputable’ and stand out within your niche. When choosing sites look at the style of the blog. Is it graphically pleasing? Does the content read well or have a personal style to it? Are they ACTIVELY adding new posts to the blog and more importantly, do they have a following (do many people comment)?

On top of that look at the Google pagerank of the site itself and maybe also a few of the post URLs themselves so see if they have PR. You may have a software tool that can do this? (My URLXtractor software does this.. but there will be others and you may already own one).

Once you have your list, draft a short message (See if you can find the blog owners name from the posts or comments) and inform them that you have just created a brand new quality report or ecover that shows people how to XXXX, or contains great information on XXXX. Ask them if they would like rights to give it away via their blog to their readers, and all you would like in exchange is a dofollow backlink from their blog. You can elaberate further, for example a contextual link within a published review or an article on their blog.

You may choose to brand it for them so that it ties in with their site content. It is also up to you whether you retain your author name within the document, or whether you require that a link is left within the document so that you can gain from some referred traffic.

So, what does the blog gain from?

The blog owner has a new ‘ready made’ pre-branded ebook or report that looks professional and contains some great content that they are able to give away to their site visitors and email subscribers. A product that they can use to attract new subscribers via their website.

What do you benefit from?

You can benefit from a valuable backlink from a non-spammy blog. A number of these types of link will make a difference. You can also obtain a constant flow of traffic if you also have a link at the end of the ebook content as readers may want to learn more about yourself due to the input you have added. Rememebr, the backlink on this ‘busy’ blog will not only offer you ranking juice but also direct traffic from the blog itself.

But doesn’t this sound like a lot of work for a backlink?

The trick here is to offer the rights for your NEW ebook to a small number of blog owners. Not too many otherwise the interest MAY be less. Four or five blogs will make it exclusive enough whilst keeping a fair ratio between your pre-effort and benefits. A handful of REAL backlinks and a steady flow of traffic is well worth the time spent on creating a short but quality ebook.

Remember, a link to your website could be within the ebook that these blogs will be actively distributing on your behalf. Bringing in traffic and building your authority within your niche! A win win situation. If you do not include yor author name, link to your site or any of your own branding you may choose to offer this deal to a larger number of blog owners meaning MORE one way, relevant backlinks.

Then if this works for you… rinse and repeat!  You won’t get a reply from all of the blog owners, but like a lot of things, it is a number game.  Keep sending out your proposal and you should see some nice results.

I hope that this blog post has given you some ideas and shown you that there are unique ways in which to build quality backlinks and obtain traffic. You just need to conjure them up and then put them into action. Afterall… taking action is key here!

As many of you will be aware, Google rolled out yet another major “update” a few days ago which is referred to as the “Penguin” update. This update has been devastating to many. Even those who say they do not carry out ANY black hat SEO and that stick rigidly within Googles terms of service.

I’ve been popping in and out of forums, reading numerous blog posts to find out just how many people this has affected and to try and identify whether there is a common theme. The answer… “Not really”.

Some web masters are saying that Google must be punishing sites and taking down other websites that share the same Google Webmaster Tools account or Google Analytics account.

So, what things are Google telling you NOT to do?

Here is a list that Google published……

1. Avoid hidden text or hidden links.

2. Don’t use cloaking or sneaky redirects.

3. Don’t send automated queries to Google.

4. Don’t load pages with irrelevant keywords.

5. Don’t create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content.

6. Don’t create pages with malicious behavior, such as phishing or installing viruses, trojans, or other badware.

7. Avoid “doorway” pages created just for search engines, or other “cookie cutter” approaches such as affiliate programs with little or no original content.

8. If your site participates in an affiliate program, make sure that your site adds value. Provide unique and relevant content that gives users a reason to visit your site first.

The problem is, there seems to be a large percentage of people claiming that they have stuck within those guidelines and yet they have still been penalized.

Some people are reporting sudden traffic drops of around 90%, whilst others are saying their businesses have near enough collapsed overnight and there seems to be no word of whether this issue will be resolved at all, never mind anytime soon.

So, what lesson can we all take from this? Diversify your traffic sources.  In modern day internet you cannot rely on any one source.  Google is a great source of traffic but there are other ways to get visitors to your websites.

Here are a FEW different sources of traffic…

1. Forums: Find relevant, high traffic forums, sign up and start getting involved.  Help people by answering questions and offering advice.  You will soon stand out as an authoritive member and people will likely want to see what else you offer.  Create a good signature link and test out different ones.  Monitor your analytics and see what traffic you recieve and how long they’re are on your site for.  Also track your conversions.  This could be new subsscribers or even sales.

2. Build your own mailing list: If you’re not doing this already then you should seriously consider doing so.  Having a large number of subscribers is great as you can reach out to them with an email.  You can send them valuable information and even recommend products that you know will help them and offer great benefits.  There are lots of ways to start building a mailing list.  If I get enough people interested in hearing more on building a list then I “may” create a report to help you on your way.

3. Quality blog commenting: I’m not talking about blog spamming.  I’m referring to adding valuable comments on other blogs relevant to your niche.  Read and digest the post and then comment offering your own views, ideas or opinion.  Bloggers love to get readers involved! A couple of tips here.  Look for quality blogs only that do NOT have spammy one line comments.  It doesn’t matter if a blog post has 50 comments as long as ALL of those comments are real, valuable comments by REAL readers.  Look for recent posts.  When bloggers publish a new post they are ‘active’ and more likely to check for new pending comments to approve.  If you comment on an old post they are often ignored.  Again, valuable comments attract interest so it’s a great way to get direct traffic through to your own website, or squeeze page.  These backlinks will also count and elp towards your search engine rankings because the blog you are commenting on is a QUALITY blog.  Don’t worry about your comment links being DOFOLLOW.  These days it is all about your overall link profile and it would look unnatural to have only dofollow links.  Diversify your links and build them consistantly.

4. Video marketing: Youtube is a fantastic source of traffic.  You will notice more and more videos ranking in Googles search results and afterall… Youtube is owned by Google.  The great thing about video marketing is that you can ‘warm’ up the viewer before they click through to your website, squeeze page or product. You can also create a series of videos which is great for attracting Youtube subscribers.  If bandwidth is an issue for you and your own hosting then you can upload your videos to Youtube first and then embed them on your own site essentially using Youtubes bandwidth.

The list goes on and on.  Remember, Google isn’t the be all and end all.  Internet marketing goes on… and until the situation with Google is rectified, or at least made clearer, have comfort that there are other channels and methods in which to obtain traffic.

What better place to find potential buyers than a busy forum that is specificly targetting people within your niche.

Traditional methods of forum marketing is just a case of getting involved within the forum. Participating in discussions and offering free advice and tips for those requiring it. This builds your authority within the forum and people start to pay attention to you. Particularly your signature link that points people to your website, squeeze page or landing page.

The problem here is that most people do not know how to maximise this exposure. Forums have hundreds, if not thousands of threads, created and read by often ‘thousands’ of members and guests. Here is a simple process to find relevant forums and the most relevant threads to start participating in.

Step 1: Find relevant forums by searching in google for your niche’s main keyword followed by the word forum. Google will then return the most popular forums (multi platform) relevant to your broad niche.

Step 2: Choose one of the forums listed and perform another search. This time by returning results ONLY from that forum that have your chosen keyword within the page title of the thread. Check first that it is possible to add a signature link to your profile which will allow you to add some promotional copy or links to the bottom of EACH post you make. Sometimes you need to have a number of posts before this feature is active.

Step 3: Depending how many results are shown, you may want to narrow the results down to those indexed in a specific time frame, such as the ‘Last Month’. This will show you the most recent / active discussions that are related to your keyword.

Step 4: Sign up to the forum, add some details about yourself and your business to your profile page, including a link to your website if possible. Create a signature link if it is possible to do so upon registering. Then visit a number of these relevant, recent threads and leave a valuable reply. Maybe give a valuable view or opinion or leave a tip or good advice. Some forums allow you to subscribe to the thread so you can see when others post in the thread. This allows you to get further involved when being notified of this.

Step 5: Repeat this process on the same forum, and on others. Keep a list of the forums. You can use the same login details for all of the forums to make it quick and easy to login and participate.

When forum members or guests see the value that you add they are likely to click through to your signature link to see what you offer. If the forums offer dofollow links then you will also gain quality, relevant links for your site from different busy forums which will also help your search engine rankings.

I have developed a cool piece of software called Top 30 Analyzer that allows you to analyze websites for a single keywords, or a list of keywords.  This software allows you to visually identify the onpage SEO factors, as well as extract the site PR and page PR for EACH of the top 30 websites.  An average SEO score is then calculated using the data from the top 10 websites.

STEP 1: Load the software and enter your keyword phrase into the top text field, and click on the ‘Analyze Top 30 Sites’ button.

STEP 2: The software will then retrieve the top 30 ranked websites from Google and will crawl EACH URL and extract onpage elements such as title tag, header tags, meta description, alt tags, domain name, keyword density and also the site PR and page PR.  The software will identify if the ‘keyword phrase’ is present within these elements and will highlight this within the results it displays.

STEP 3: After the software has completed analyzing ALL the URLs it will calculate an average SEO score at the bottom and give an indication of how hard it would be to rank in the top 10 of Google for that specific keyword.  The lower the average SEO score, the easier it will be to rank for that keyword phrase.  The ‘higher’ the average SEO score is, the more onpage SEO factors include the ‘keyword’ and the higher the site and page PR is.

You can also analyze a long list of keyword phrases in bulk by using the bulk checking feature.  I will likely cover this in my next blog post and show yo a good technique to locate and analyze the best keywords.

For this I am going to use one of my brand new software applications called ‘Content Research Hub’.  This is the first version release for the software but I do plan on releasing a new version shortly that will have an ‘auto’ rewrite feature built into it.

Ok, for this example I am going to use the niche ‘fly fishing’.

STEP 1: Open up the software and enter your keyword, in this case it is ‘fly fishing’.  You would then tick the relevant boxes to tell the software what kind of phrases / sentences it needs to extract, for example.. ‘Fly fishing is….’, ‘Fly fishing can….’ etc.  Then you select the sources you would like the software to extract from.  For this example I have selected ALL of the sources.  Lastly, you click the ‘Gather Research’ button.

The software will then perform a number of searches and extract ALL relevant sentences from the hundreds of URLs it crawls.

STEP 2: Once the software has finished crawling all the URLs, you can open up the information in a notepad document, or SAVE the information in .txt format.  In this example the software extracted 985 relevant sentences / factual snippets of information.  You can then choose to remove any low quality sentences and use this information to write your own articles.

The software also extracts ALL the page titles as it crawls EACH URL which can be used to discover ‘ideas’ for new articles, or sub-topics for your niche.

There are also two other features available to you from this point.  After weeding out any unwanted sentences you can create an article using the available snippets of info by clicking on the ‘Create Article’ button.  You can then edit or rewrite it to make it your own.  You can also click the ‘Create Spin Ready Article’ button to take ALL of the available sentences and create a super size spin ready article that you can use in article distribution software or networks.

I am looking to add an auto spin feature that will spin common elements and part phrases with a single click.  This feature would need to be experimented with but can serve a very useful purpose and would allow users to create huge spun documents or articles with very little effort.

Today I wanted to show you the exact steps I would take to find the best keywords to include on a webpage.  This technique can be used for ANY niche.

It’s a fact that you have a far better chance of receiving traffic for a keyword phrase if you actually have that phrase within the content of your webpage.  If you want to rank for specific keyword phrases in Google, those keyword phrases need to be present on your webpage.

For the purpose of this blog post I am going to use the keword ‘dog training’.  Backlinks aside, I would need to create a webpage that contains ‘relevant’ keywords that are related to ‘dog training’.

What I would do here is perform a search in Google for the term ‘dog training’.  I would then pick out ALL the keywords including long tailed keywords from the top 5 rankings pages.  This can be time consuming and often difficult to do accurately so I use a new software application of mine called ‘URLXtractor’.

URLXtractor is a neat peice of software that can scrape URLs from Googles search results, scrape VAST amounts of keywords, emails, check PR etc.  For this tutorial I’m going to use it to extract keywords from the top 5 web pages.

STEP 1: Load the software and enter the keyword ‘dog training’ into the keyword field and click the ‘Extract URLs’ button.

Step 2: Delete ALL the URLs apart from the top 5 and then click the ‘Scrape Keywords’ button.

Step 3: The example below shows 857 keywords extracted from those top 5 rankings webpages.  What we need to do now is filter this list.  If I want to obtain all the keywords that contain my chosen keyword ‘dog training’, I would then enter that into the text field as shown below and click the ‘Filter Keywords’ button.

Step 4: What we are left with now is a list of 32 keywords that contain the keyword ‘dog training’.  These keywords are ALL present and visible on the top 5 rankings webpages.  You can then choose to sort this keyword list alphabetically or SAVE them to your hard drive.

Some of these keywords are the ones that you would need to build content around and add to your webpage.  Backlinks aside, Google has ranked those webpages at the top of their search results because of their content.  This of course includes the keywords that are contained within that content.

You can also then alter the filtering, for example just filter the list using the keyword ‘dog’.  This will then display ALL the keywords that contain the word ‘dog’ but not neccessarily the word ‘training’.  You can also reverse this and filter the list using ‘training’.  The possibilities are endless but this software gives you the power to find these keywords and also filter them down into manageable and highly useable lists.

Using URLXtractor to extract THOUSANDS of keywords:

The real power of URLXtractors keyword scraping feature is the ability to AUTOMATICALLY scrape ALL the keywords from upto 1,000 URLs / webpages.

Here is a screenshot below showing 58,212 keywords scraped from 1,000 URLs related to ‘dog training’:

With 2,488 keywords that contain ‘dog training’:

This is an absurd number of relevant keywords, and all of them were present on webpages ranked in Google.  When creating any webpage you need to create a theme.  This is what Google uses to match up a webpage to a ’search query’.  The best way to do this is to reverse this way of thinking and look at the webpages that Google ranks most highly for any specific keyword phrase.

There is an ongoing debate going on about the effectiveness of blog comments and whether they can help increase search engine rankings.  The truth is that unexposed, high PR, moderated blogs can offer great SEO benefits.  These are basically active blogs that have authority and do not allow spam comments to get published.  In my opinion it is always worth while making a good, valueable comment on a blog in return for a high quality link.  This software allows you to do just that.

Content Network NEWS (Feedback Required):

One of the questions I get asked the most is ‘Is it possible to submit pre-spun content to the network?’.  The answer was always ‘no’ as I didn’t want poorly spun content to be published within the network.  Up to now the content has always been published via Article Writer Pro v2.0 which means the content always reads well, resulting in a good indexing rate in Google.  However, this does mean that in order to submit to the network you must complete a project which can take anything from 1 - 2 hours.

I am now considering adding the ability to submit spun content (an article with spin syntax) to the network.  This will make it much more appealing to some and will also speed up the process of adding articles and backlinks to the network.  There will be a quality control process implemented though to prevent poorly spun content from getting through.  This quality control process will be operated by my company and not the site owners.  This will ensure fast approval and that only quality spun content gets through.  A system will be in place to ensure that the spun content also passes a uniqueness threshold… similar to what is already in place with the current system.

I am also going to integrate the content network with the backlinksindexer.com service so that ‘X’ amount of published articles get driven through the indexing service which should result in an even higher indexing rate… plus it should psuh some extra weight to members own backlinks.
